*Classic*
Every time you see me
The Hammer's just so hype
I'm dope on the floor and I'm magic on the mic
Now why would I ever stop doing this?
With others making records that just don't hit
I've toured around the world, from London to the Bay
It's "Hammer, go Hammer, MC Hammer, yo Hammer"
And the rest can go and play

Valentine's day was great this year. I got to make my Sweetie smile which made the day really special. That's not to say I don't make her smile every day but yesterday was above and beyond. We have a new addition to our family. I gave my wife a cute little iPod Nano yesterday. Had to throw in the pink iSkin case as well. She loves pink. The Black Negro has a boo now too! I'm actually a little jealous. I want a new iPod too but that won't happen for a while. I'm holding out for an 80 gig iPod touch. Knowing Apple though I could be waiting a while. An 80 gig flash drive would be off the chain!!

- DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Summertime - Homebase
Homebase is the album where Jazz and Prince started to get grown. The songs on the album dealt with slightly more mature subject matter than earlier records (Nightmare On My Street, I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson, Parents Just Don't Understand come to mind.) I experienced this new found maturity first hand the first time I listened to Homebase. There's a song on there called You Saw My Blinker. It's a slight departure from their usual fair. Fresh Prince sounds genuinely angry. He says "You saw my blinker b*tch" several times during the chorus. It made me a little uncomfortable (I was 14 at the time) but I thought it was cool. I felt rather rebellious and subversive. It was cool until momma came home. I made an immediate mental note: Don't blast a brand new album on the stereo in the living room without listening to it first. Momma was pissed. I don't remember her exact words but I was very surprised she didn't tear my backside up or ground me. She made me take the album back to the store that same night and get my money back. It was so embarrassing. The same clerk who had rung me up a couple of hours before was at the register when I got back. I had to explain what happened. "No sir there's nothing wrong with the CD. My Mom just won't let me listen to it any more." I felt like such a dweeb. From then on I listened to all new or questionable albums in my room. Thanks a lot Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince.

Fall is finally here. It was 60 degrees this morning when I left for work. Today's high is 78. It's supposed to get down into the 50's tonight for a low. The blazing hot summer has come to an end in Memphis. Of course the temps could spike back up into the upper 80's next week for all we know. This is Memphis after all. We were in the 90's just last week. We'll enjoy the cool weather while it's here though.

Feeling great this morning. Me and the wife got out of Memphis for the weekend. We had the most relaxing time. She has the rest of the week off from school (which I'm very envious of). I'm back at work today but it's alright. We've been very busy this morning but I'm feeling too good to care.

The iPod did alright this morning. I had a couple of skips here and there but overall it and I were groovin' today. This is an interesting list. Notice the distinct absense of people of color this morning. I guess Gordo Negro Sugoi* was feeling the white folks this morning. Two Swedish super groups were in the mix, Abba and Ace of Base. You see Frou Frou with Imogen Heap on vocals. The new Switchfoot is in the house. My iPod seems to like smashups that include Jay-Z. Gotta have at least one brother reppin' for the people.
Footnotes
* Gordo Negro Sugoi = The official name of my 60 gig Black 5G iPod.
- Gordo - Spanish for fat or large. Because it's fat like me but in storage capacity not physical size.
- Negro - Spanish for black. Because it's black. Like me.
- Sugoi - Japanese for cute. Because it's cute. Also like me.
- The Black Negro - So dubbed by my fiancé who can't seem to remember the official name.
