I've slept on this album for a long time. Last month I rediscovered it on iTunes. After reading numerous positive comments I decided to give it a listen. It's very good. Not quite as good as her best album so far, Never Say Never, but it's not bad at all. I think the discovery that Timbaland did a lot of the beats on the album helped swing my opinion of it. I guess I just wasn't ready for it when it first came out. It's a different sound from Brandy but now that I've had 5 more years of music listening under my belt (and a new found love of all things Timbaland [musically at least]) I think I was ready to be open my mind to a different kind of Brandy album.

The random mix has a little different vibe this morning. I inadvertently selected the wrong playlist this morning on the way to work. Wrong probably isn't the right word. The playlist was just different from my usual routine. It proved to be a refreshing change of pace. This is the calmer, smoother, "urban" playlist I put together for when my wife is in the car. No Hip-Hop. No Rock. No Alternative. No Dance music. Just R&B, Gospel, and Jazz. I thought it was strange to have R&B tracks back to back to back. At first I thought the Black Negro was just going back to its roots. I didn't discover the playlist mix up until I was almost to work. It was a pleasant surprise. I ain't mad. Sometimes you need a change of pace to keep things fresh.

Feeling great this morning. Me and the wife got out of Memphis for the weekend. We had the most relaxing time. She has the rest of the week off from school (which I'm very envious of). I'm back at work today but it's alright. We've been very busy this morning but I'm feeling too good to care.

This song always makes me think about the bit Arsenio used to do from time to time. C+C played half time at a Grizzlies game this past season. I wanted to go just to see if they had Martha Nash singing the vocals or some other imposter lip-syncing like back in the day.

For a long time I didn't realize that the sample in Hey Lover by L.L. Cool J (Feat. Boyz II Men) was from this song. In fact this was a fairly recent revelation made within the last year or so. It came on the radio and I was like that's the Hey Lover track but it's slower. My wife (then girlfriend) rolled her eyes and said "No sweetie that's Michael Jackson". Followed by "You're such a rudy poo." I couldn't argue with that. Some Michael Jackson fan I am.

Cloud 8 is my friend Greg's band from his days at Santa Clara University. They're not together any more but I really liked the sound they crafted for themselves back in the day. Greg played bari sax on the album which may seem to be derivative of Dave Matthews Band at first glance but Cloud 8's sound is totally different. I like giving Feel No Evil a spin every once in a while when I want a nice change of pace. I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it. It's very refreshing.
