Why do you blog?
Submitted by littleduckling.
When I first started blogging way back in 2002 I viewed it as a fun way to hone my writing skills. I had a rocky start but I did notice a vast improvement over the next year or two. I looked at one of my old posts the other day and thought "that was pretty good." Unfortunately my writing seems to have hit a plateau or even declined in the last couple of years. That's probably because back at my peak I actually had time to pick a topic, think about it and write something substantive. Now I barely have time to look at this thing much less write something of any length. Now it's just quick hitters and fragments of thoughts. Blogging is still fun I just don't have much time to do it.
Love it or hate it, many of you lost an hour of sleep last night due to Daylight Saving Time? Worth It? Do you like it more/less now that Daylight Saving Time occurs earlier (and later) in the year?
I am indifferent. I try not to be bothered by inconsequential things like the artificial manipulation of time. The hour of sleep I supposedly lost is merely a deposit which will be returned to me in the fall when time is artificially manipulated again. The whole thing seems silly to me.
What do you do with the cards and letters you receive? Do you keep them all, just keep the photos, throw them away?
Inspired by jacolily.
They usually sit around the house for months and sometimes years only to be thrown out the next time I move. I stuff them in any available nook or cranny. What can I say? I'm a pack rat.
Were your holiday cards store bought, handmade, online, TBD or MIA?
MIA at the moment. They should be going out in the next day or so.
What's your alma mater?

I kind of stumbled upon my beloved Carson-Newman. I was looking for a place to transfer to after my mis-adventurous Freshman year at Fisk. My requirements were simple. Anywhere but Fisk. J/K. I wanted a small, Christian school that had a Communications program. CN fit the bill and was in the state. So I applied, got accepted and moved off to East Tennessee not knowing what to expect. The 3 years that followed were the best 3 years of my life so far.
What is your favorite dish on the Thanksgiving table?
Submitted by Kadeeae.
Grandma's Sweet Potato pie. I don't discriminate though. It's my favorite dish on the table every other day of the year as well.
Are you a good dancer or do you have two left feet? What's your signature dance move?
I have two left feet. I can't dance worth a lick on my own. I am very teachable though. Give me some choreography and time to learn the moves and I can do it. Just don't ask me step on a dance floor and bust a move off the top of my head. I can't freestyle. My wife says it's because I have no rhythm but that's absolutely not true. I've got rhythm coming out of my ears. You can't be the son of a drummer and have years of piano, jazz band, concert band and choir without having rhythm. I think the problem is three fold:
- I'm too dang self conscious. You have to really let go to dance in front of folks. I'm am unable or unwilling to do that. I'm very inhibited. I can count the number of times I've been drunk in my life on one hand. During those rare occasions where I was both drunk and in a dance appropriate situation I vaguely recall dancing rather easily. Whether or not my dancing on those occasions could be considered "good" I cannot say.
- For some reason there's a disconnect between my head, neck and shoulders and my hips, legs and feet. I can move either set of parts together but can't combine the movements of both sections into one coherent action or motion. I can move my lower half to the beat or the upper have to the beat but never both. This lends itself to being a heck of a sitting down dancer. I often jam out at my desk here at work or at home but that doesn't translate well to the dance floor.
- I just never had much practice. We didn't really dance in my household or at large family gatherings growing up. Music was woven into the very fabric of my being from a young age but enjoyment of said music as expressed through dance is the missing piece of the puzzle. In middle school and high school I was too shy to dance. I was perfect specimen of a wall flower. I loosened up a little bit my first year at Fisk. It was kind of hard to go to a party and not dance then. If you didn't want to dance you might as well stay at the dorm. The school I transfered to didn't have dances. They had "foot functions" (because dancing was supposedly evil according to southern baptists even though the bible mentions dancing and people dancing numerous times).
What's your favorite appetizer to order at a restaurant?
Tortilla Chips and Bean Dip from La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant. It's the best.
Somehow I was selected as a finalist for the HP Arts & Crafts What Do You Have To Say? Contest based on this QOTD answer I gave. Go figure. Screw voting for Pedro. Vote for Daryl!
